Francisco Kit Tatad was a journalist and held various positions including as reporter and columnist for the Manila Bulletin and as correspondent for the Agence France-Presse before being tapped by President Ferdinand Marcos as minister for Public Information, a position he held from 1969 to 1980.

At 29 years old, Francisco Kit Tatad was the youngest person ever to be appointed to a Cabinet position by any Philippine administration until that time.

As minister, Francisco Kit Tatad facilitated various news briefings and broadcasts for the state media, notably the proclamation of martial law on September 21, 1972. In 1978, he ran for and won a seat in the Interim Batasan Pambansa (Philippine Parliament) where he was a member until 1984. He returned to private life during the administration of Corazon C. Aquino, writing for various publications that included the International Herald Tribune, The Asian Wall Street Journal, Far Eastern Economic Review, Washington Quarterly, Business Day and the Philippine Daily Globe. From 1989 to 1991, he was editor-in-chief and publisher for Philippines Newsday, a broadsheet of limited circulation, that was well read by business leaders, government personalities as well as the diplomatic community posted to the Philippines.

Francisco Kit Tatad ran for senator in the 1992 elections and won a limited three-year term under the transitory provision of the 1987 Constitution. He ran for reelection in the 1995 elections and won for a second term that expired in 2001.

CREDIBLE BA ANG PUBLIC SERVANT NA PAPANIG SA KATIWALIAN? SAAN BA SIYA NONG KAPANAHONAN NI ESTRADA? DI BA KAY ESTRADA? OI, NAKO PO..HUWAG NA. LITO OSMENA SA SENADO.

  6. KA ROMEO SAMORA says:

A MULTI-SECTORAL group in Mindanao said Tuesday it is endorsing the senatorial bid of former Justice Secretary Silvestre Belo III, saying he is in a good position to contribute to peace there.

“It is time we had a senator who truly understands the complexities of peace-building in Mindanao, and we are happy to strongly endorse fellow Mindanawon, justice and peace advocate Bebot Bello for senator in 2010,” Kusong [Strong] Mindanao said in a statement.

“Bello can contribute to a more meaningful discourse in the formulation of a national peace policy bill that would institutionalize the peace process to include the creation of a Permanent Peace Commission,” said Eliseo Mercado Jr., a priest and head of the group.

He said Bello was his comrade in BAYAN Mindanao during the Marcos regime.

Mercado said Bello, former head of the government panel negotiating peace with the communists under President Fidel Ramos, had proposed the inclusion of all stakeholders in the peace process. He believed that peace-building should not only be between the government and rebel forces but should involve all affected sectors.

Bello, an activist against Martial Law and human rights violations, was himself a victim of injustice during the martial law years and was jailed for offenses that had not been proven, Mercado said.

  7. Heismyhero says:

    Bryan Damascus
Don’t you put words on my mouth, did I say I’ll vote for Erap? Masyado ka namang defensive. Ang issue ko ang pang-iiwan ni Tamano ke erap, not being he is an opposition or not. Call me names and that made you more intellectual than me? hehehe, now whose childish? You’re not even worthy as opponent in a debate having only “P.L.M. A.L.C.U.” as reference on his credibility? Yes, I would rather be dumb rather than having Villar as president, but I’m rooting for Noynoy definitely.
Again, posting “Tamano Vote Ko” is irritating like Bello, in the comment portion of this site. That’s my opinion.
