In 1995, John Carlos JC de los Reyes was elected as the city councilor of Olongapo City. During his term, he focused on the poor, the youth and cooperatives.

In the 2007 elections, among 27 local and national candidates, John Carlos JC de los Reyes was the lone winner of the Ang Kapatiran Party, placing second among ten slots for the Olongapo City Council. This was achieved despite a decade absent from local politics.

John Carlos JC de los Reyes free legal assistance program under an informal project named JUSTICE CRUSADE has been widely successful among his constituents. He is presently prioritizing the institutionalization of the Barangay Human Rights Action Centers, the office mandated by law for the protection and prevention of human rights violations in the barangay.

As councilor, de los Reyes has spoken out and campaigned against illegal drugs, rampant violations of worker’s rights at Hanjin, Subic Bay and has campaigned against illegal fish cages in the area. He has also led protests against the proposed coal power plant and has been outspoken in criticizing government’s plan to open more casinos in Subic.

The boldest statement he has made for good governance is the filing of numerous cases before the Ombudsman against high ranking government officials where he himself is complainant. This is in line with his political policy of alleviating the people’s suffering by addressing the problem of expensive and increasing costs of basic needs like water, electricity, medicines, health care, etc., and insuring that these basic services are kept free and far from graft and corruption.

John Carlos JC de los Reyes has been nominated as Presidential candidate to the Philippines for the 2010 elections.

  17. KA ROMEO SAMORA says:

A MULTI-SECTORAL group in Mindanao said Tuesday it is endorsing the senatorial bid of former Justice Secretary Silvestre Belo III, saying he is in a good position to contribute to peace there.

“It is time we had a senator who truly understands the complexities of peace-building in Mindanao, and we are happy to strongly endorse fellow Mindanawon, justice and peace advocate Bebot Bello for senator in 2010,” Kusong [Strong] Mindanao said in a statement.

“Bello can contribute to a more meaningful discourse in the formulation of a national peace policy bill that would institutionalize the peace process to include the creation of a Permanent Peace Commission,” said Eliseo Mercado Jr., a priest and head of the group.

He said Bello was his comrade in BAYAN Mindanao during the Marcos regime.

Mercado said Bello, former head of the government panel negotiating peace with the communists under President Fidel Ramos, had proposed the inclusion of all stakeholders in the peace process. He believed that peace-building should not only be between the government and rebel forces but should involve all affected sectors.

Bello, an activist against Martial Law and human rights violations, was himself a victim of injustice during the martial law years and was jailed for offenses that had not been proven, Mercado said.

  21. teac says:

Sir, I do not intend to be rude or so, though I know you may have the highest esteem among the candidates to serve the country as president, I do not think your strenght should be measured just like your popularity. And though it is not a popularity contest, the importance of many years of experience is important in the post that your aiming for. Even in exposures and ability to speak your mind during the debate last Saturday eavining, you were showing uncertainty in your answering questions, and you do ot consume the 1 or 2 minutes alotted for you to express your mind about the question. Principles are mere stand of a person and it may vary on any given situations. Sir you are not a Presidentable material at this time though you may be in the near 10 to 20 years but at the present, I hope you slide to the side and make way in supporting the proper candidate.

  24. ako says:

Election is coming very soon and we really have
to think seriously and reflect for our future.
Let’s think that this is already our last chance.
Who do you think should we submit our lives to,
let’s remember that appointing a leader for our
country is really very critical for us(the people),
we are entrsting our future unto them. Let’s not
only think about ourselves but let’s also think
about our loved ones, our family, children, and
even our grand children. Every election period
is really like WE~US~THE PEOPLE in the PHILIPPINES
is between life and death, one mistake would really
lead EVERY ONE of us to death.
So let’s reflect as to what leader do we really want to have?
For me, a good leader must have the discipline to work toward
his vision single-mindedly, as well as to direct his actions and
those of the team toward the goal. Action is the mark of a leader.
Does HE have this??? Well I’m not really sure.
Aside from the aforesaid a leader for me must have integrity,
    dedication, Magnanimity, Openness, creativity, fairness,
    and most specially assertiveness.
Assertiveness is not the same as aggressiveness.
Rather, it is the ability to clearly state what one
expects so that there will be no misunderstandings.
Along with assertiveness comes the responsibility
to clearly understand what the people expect from
their leader. So the question I would like to leave is ~
“Does HE have all of these qualities???”
    “Is he worth our life?”

    Please…I’m begging fellow Filipinos,
we seriously need to work hand in hand,
if we really want a change then let’s start
the change in our own self. Deeply think
a thousand times who you think really deserves
    your votes this coming election…
May the Lord our God help and guide US this coming elections..
